Q. How do I get to the Township building?

A. From Bath: take 248 towards Nazareth. Turn left onto S. Broad Street/PA-191.Turn right onto E. Center Street/PA-191. Turn left onto N. New Street/PA-191. Continue to follow PA-191. Turn left onto Newport Avenue. Municipal building is on the right hand side.

From Route 33: take the Stockertown/Bangor/PA-191 exit. Turn left onto PA-191. Turn right onto Newport Avenue. Municipal building is on the right hand side.

From Allentown: Take Route 22 East. Take Route 33 North. Follow directions above from Route 33.

From New Jersey: Take Route 22 West. Take Route 33 North. Follow directions above from Route 33.

From Route 80: Take Route 33 South. Follow directions above from Route 33.

Q. Does the Township collect my trash?

A. No, at this point the Township does not have its own municipal trash collection service. Residents may choose any trash hauler to collect their trash. It is recommended that you check with your neighbors to determine which trash haulers collect in your neighborhood. Prices may vary from hauler to hauler depending on the number of scheduled pick-ups per week.

Q. Does the Township have a recycling plan?

A. No, currently there is not a recycling plan in place.

Q. Are there alarm system requirements in the Township and what are the penalties for a false alarm?

A. There is currently no alarm system registration or other requirements. There are penalties established under PA Crimes Code Title 18 for false alarms. Those penalties are not currently being enforced. The Fire Company and Police Department are studying the data on past alarms to determine if there is a problem that needs to be addressed by enforcement.

Q. Do my children(s) bikes need to be registered?

A. No, bike registration is no longer done in the Township.

Q. Do I have to wear a helmet when I ride my bike?

A. A person under 12 years of age shall not operate a pedalcycle or ride as a passenger on a pedalcycle unless the person is wearing a pedalcycle helmet meeting the standards of the American National Standards Institute, the American Society for Testing and Materials, the Snell Memorial Foundation's Standards for Protective Headgear for Use in Bicycling or any other nationally recognized standard for pedalcycle helmet approval. Q. Can I burn my lawn clippings, leafs, etc?

A. Yes, open fires may be set by the owner of private property upon his property, in those parts of the Township outside the fire limits as now or hereafter may be constituted, provided;

a. leaves, branches, wood scraps and other similar vegetable matter only are burned;

b. there is no practical available alternative method for disposal of the material to be burned;

c. every such fire shall be confined to a non-combustible container, covered with a screen of one-half inch (1/2") or smaller mesh.

d. no such fire shall be closer than twenty-five feet (25') from any building or from any property line;

e. no hazardous or other objectionable condition will be created by such burning;

f. no such burning is allowed on any street, sidewalk or public grounds within Upper Nazareth Township, and;

g. all such burning takes place between the hours of sunrise and sunset.

***Open fires not in strict compliance with the regulations set forth above shall only be permitted after application to the Upper Nazareth Township Fire Chief demonstrating compelling necessity and written approval by the Fire Chief for the maintenance of said fire. Such written approval will include reasonable restrictions upon the applicant to ensure the fire is safely maintained and causes minimal or no hazardous or objectionable conditions.***

Q. I want to get a dog, do I need a dog license for my pet?

A. Yes,dog licenses are required by Northampton County. Dog licenses are available at Mike's Bait and Sport Shop. Located at 328 East Lawn Road, Nazareth, PA 18064. (610) 759-2905

Q. What happens to my dog if he is lost?

A. Stray dogs or dogs running at large are picked up by the Police and are temporarily sheltered in the dog pen located behind the Township Road Department on Friedenstahl Ave. An attempt to identify the owner is made to reunite the dog and the owner. Thereafter the dogs are transported to Northampton County SPCA.

Owners that have lost their dogs should call 610-330-2200.

The Police Department is not equipped to handle stray cats.

Q. What are the Township's parking regulations?

A. Parking is generally regulated by ordinance and the Vehicle Code. Local restrictions will be posted in accordance with the Vehicle Code regulations.

Q. My family and neighbors want to hold a block party. What do we need to do in order to block the roads off?

A. At this time there is no set formal procedure for block parties. In the past residents have discussed the party with the Chief of Police at (610) 759-7448 and the information is provided to the Road master to deliver barricades to close the street and to pick up the barricades after the party. Please contact the Chief of Police for more information. The office is located at the Municipal building.

Q. If I get a parking ticket where do I drop it off?

A. If you get a parking ticket there is a box on the outside of the Municipal building. Only parking tickets and Township related information, NO OTHER TICKETS, can be placed inside the box.

Q. Do I need a Certificate of Occupancy?

A. For new construction, single family dwellings and new commercial establishments certificate of occupancy is required.

A. Upper Nazareth Township advertises in the two local newspapers, US and Key. All community events and important information are advertised in these newspapers.
